55^th Annual Institute on Lake Superior Geology

ILSG 2009

Ely, Minnesota - May 7 & 8, 2009

The meeting will be held at the Grand Ely Lodge. Six field trips are planned

1) Tour of the Cu-Ni-PGE deposits of the Duluth Complex (Peterson, Severson, and Patelke)
2) Geology and Sedimentology of the Paleoproterozoic Animikie Group along the Eastern Mesabi Range (Ojakangas, Severson, and others)
3) Architecture of an Archean Greenstone Belt: Stratigraphy, Structure, and Mineralization (Peterson, Hudak)
4) Glacial Geology of the Vermillion Moraine (Larson and Mooers)
5) Canoe Excursion through the Lake One Troctolite, Duluth Complex (Miller)
6) Geology of Archean metasedimentary rocks in the Eastern Vermilion District (Jirsa)

The organising committee are working hard to finalise the details so keep checking back!

Students

Students are especially encouraged to participate in all facets of the ILSG. Travel subsidies are available for qualified students who attend the 54th meeting. Applications for student travel awards are available on the website below. Applications must be completed and returned by March 31, 2009. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best student-authored presentations.
